Turbo Charger

1.Schematic Diagram of Working method Turbocharger

Working:

The main purpose for using turbo charger is increase the efficiency of Engine and reduce the fuel consumption.A turbo is an exhaust driven by turbine at one end and a compressor at the other end to comperes the air into goes Engine intake, the air that's compressed is force fed into the cylinder for the combustion process. In addition to the turbine and compressor, it also has a waste gate that generally regulates the exhaust gas flow into the exhaust side of the turbo and the thereby the amount of boost that is provided.

Advantage:

1.Power output is higher compared to normal Engine

2.The fuel consumption of a turbocharger engine is lower.

3.A turbocharged engine's torque characteristic can be improved.(The high-altitude performance of a    turbocharged engine is significantly better.)

4. Less noisy than a naturally aspirated engine with identical output.

Disadvantage:

1. In simple words turbo charger is turned on after a particular amount of exhaust gas is produced which happens at a certain rpm. So when this threshold rpm is crossed the turbo does not instantly delivery requisite power surge, and during this period the vehicle does not move very fast when the throttle is given.(Turbo lag).

2. Turbochargers are quite expensive.

3. Turbocharged vehicles travel at high speeds, any malfunctions could lead to dangerous situations. While a turbocharger may be beneficial for those living in the mountains and having to climb steep hills, traveling at high speeds could cause a driver to veer off the road or crash into another vehicle. Driving at fast speeds can be dangerous on commercial roads and lead to accidents.

4. The system in some vehicles may not be able to handle a turbocharger and can cause the system to malfunction and break down. This is often caused by the inadequate fuel-to-oxygen ratio. A professional mechanic needs to make the modifications to the engine and increase the fuel ratio to ensure the maximum benefit of the turbocharger.
