Do u Know How your car skid ?...........

Automobile skid can be defined as a loss of traction force between Tyre and road surface due to force acting on a vehicle.Which means your cars out of control your hand. When will skid happen friction force is less between Tyre and surfaces due to force acting on vehicle or car tyre. where is Mainly happen on slippery surface, wet surface. Most of the accident happen due to skid by driver mistake. Due this most of automobile company to prevent the skid they invented Skid control system that means to prevent vehicle skids.Which are called as VSC(vehicle skid controller).

Traction is the main factor for skid .Just imagine If you ride slippery surface with old creep tyre that leads to skid because friction between tyre and surface less.Following causes are skid might happen.so please mind this while you ride.

Cause Of Skid:

Over steer and under steer(High speed bend)

Sudden braking

Harsh Acceleration

Jerky steering movement

Tyre surface

Prevents Of Skid:

1. Drive slowly on wet or slippery surface conditions.

2. Keep distance between you and the car ahead of you. A general rule of thumb is 4 car lengths for every ten mph. If you are travelling 40 mph, keep 16 car lengths between cars. This way, you’ll have  time to pull the vehicle to stop otherwise trying to stop too suddenly can cause a skid.

3. When entering a curve or bend road keep slow. Taking a turn too quickly or braking suddenly while going in bend can cause skids.

4.Tread on tyre is most important.

What is Under steer?

When a car understeers, the front end of the car slides to the outside of a turn instead of taking the turn. Understeer occurs when the rear tyres have more traction than the front tyres, which often happens with frontwheel drive cars.

Under steer

Understeer occurs when the front slip angle is greater than the rear and the car goes straighter rather than above the intended turn.

Excess speed on entry to a hazard i.e. a corner or bend, or sudden braking to reduce the speed when negotiating the hazard. Both of these actions will have the effect of destabilizing the vehicle making it more vulnerable to a loss of control.

Over Steer:

The rear of vehicle swings out of line and gives the impression of trying to overtake the front (oversteer).

Over steer occurs when the rear tyres have a greater slip angle than the front tyres and the back threatens to overtake the front, causing the vehicle to spin.

Excessive speed into the hazard and sudden braking or acceleration with a rear wheel drive vehicle, destabilizing the vehicle, are the main causes of this skid.

Four wheel Skid:

Skid  happen four wheel will locked up the vehicle is sliding in the direction that the forward momentum is carrying it, with no directional control.

Both front and rear wheel skids, if unchecked sufficiently early, can develop into four wheel skids.

Harsh or sudden braking causing the wheels to lock and a sensation of increase in the vehicle’s speed are the main causes.

Skid control:

Skid controller is the device that is attached with (ECM) that sense the traction of all wheel and send to signal ECM and also these system automatically applies selective braking to specific wheels to stabilize the vehicle.

COMPONENTS:

  • Yaw rate sensor.
  • G-sensor.
  • Steering angle sensor.
  • Electronic throttle control.
  • Slip indicator
  • Computer
Working:

It monitors information from the steering wheel, tyres, brakes and accelerator.

By combining datas from the various sensors, the central processing unit can detect when a vehicle is in a stable or unstable state.

Automatically applies light brake pressure to a select wheel (or wheels) and control the throttle to maintain or restore control.

Advantge
  • Monitors each wheel independently maximizing the performance of the car to      optimize the cars handling ability.
  • Increases comfort, both physical and psychological.
  • Improves safety aspects of the car and the driver.
  • Helps save money long term.
  • Enhances the ability to dodge a renegade object in its pathways.
